Trailer Plans

The Idea

My idea for a trailer was not very original at all. I borrowed from DW Murphy's PVC trailer idea and used what parts I could find. I hope the information I provide below will give you a clear idea of how the trailer was made.

Do-it-yourself?

I wanted to make an affordable way to haul bulky stuff (groceries) with my bike. Creating the trailer cost me around $60, which is much less than a "professional" trailer would cost. On the other hand, the DIY trailer is not as sturdy (or heavy :) nor can it be used to haul children.

Materials

I selected PVC primarily because that is what the original plans called for. PVC is flexible and easy to work with.

Update 12/2003: I have since disassembled this trailer because I found it to be too unstable under load. If you are going to do this project, I recommend using heavy-duty PVC pipe and a central steel axle. I also lost all the large pictures in a harddrive crash so you will have to live with the thumbnails.
